Julian Herbert - Principal Analyst

Julian is Principal Analyst for Broadband within Informa Telecoms & Media's Industry Research division.
Julian directs the research for two services: World Broadband Information Service, which is an online database of subscriber data and operational data covering the fixed telephony, broadband and TV sectors; the Broadband and Internet Intelligence Centre, which is an online source of analysis and data about broadband in the home and internet content, incorporating Telecom Markets, one of the world's oldest consecutively published telecoms research services, and Converging Media research service.

Julian has researched the wireless and fixed line industries since 1991. In addition to an extensive history with Informa (EMC and WCIS) he has, as a free-lance consultant, undertaken projects with various analyst firms and enjoyed a spell as Head of Research at Kable Ltd. Julian holds a degree in Classics from Oxford University and management qualifications from the Open University and the University of Humberside.

He has spoken and chaired at numerous industry events including the 3GSM World Congress, ITU Telecoms, IPTV World Forum and Global Broadband Summit. He regularly visits and briefs clients in Europe and the Middle East on fixed broadband and IPTV trends. He is a member of Informa Telecoms & Media's Industry Research management team.

Stephen Wilson - Research Analyst

Stephen Wilson is a Research Analyst in Informa Telecoms & Media's Broadband team.

He specialises in the broadband, cable and IPTV markets of Northern Europe, Central/Eastern Europe and Central America. He has spent a year building an extensive network of contacts at regulators, ISPs and operators in the 45 markets he covers.

He is a regular contributor to Informa Telelcoms & Media's Broadband Intelligence Centre, with, most recently, articles on broadband in Lithuania and the retail market for cable TV in Germany.

He is a graduate in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from St Catherine's College, Oxford University and speaks fluent Spanish having lived in Northern Spain for one year. He is a follower of Blackpool FC and enjoys the finest in world cinema.

Qmars Safikhani - Senior Forecaster

Qmars works as Senior Forecaster within Informa Telecoms & Media’s Industry Research Division, producing ad hoc and time series based forecasts.

In this capacity, Qmars forecasts for rapidly growing telecommunications market by using cross-sectional economics time series and telecommunication actual data in order to construct econometrics models for estimation and projection of broadband, mobile and media applications and infrastructure for up to 212 countries.

Most recent forecasts includes; Future Broadband Markets, World MVNO’s Forecasts and Global Mobile Roaming.

Thécla Mbongue - Senior Research Analyst

Thécla is a senior research analyst within Informa Telecoms & Media’s Industry Research division and is a key contributor to Informa’s World Cellular Information Service.

In her role, Thécla is responsible for researching the telecoms industry in sub-Saharan Africa. Thécla also manages World cellular Data Metrics, in which Informa tracks mobile data usage and up-take, including SMS and MMS traffic volumes, mobile data subscriber information, MMSC contract awards, mobile data deployments and non-voice revenues. She is a key contributor to many of Informa’s reports such as the CDMA-450, HSPA or Multiple-SIM insights.

A native French speaker, Thécla is a regular speaker and moderator at international conferences in Africa and is often quoted in the regional and global business press.

Kristin Paulin - Research Analyst

Kristin is a Research Analyst within Informa Telecoms & Media's Industry Research division, based in Chicago and covering North American and Caribbean markets. In her role, Kristin primarily works in the regional research team responsible for Informa's World Cellular Information Service portfolio, including World Cellular Data Metrics.

She also regularly contributes to more in-depth research reports, where she produces deep dive analysis into the most pertinent issues affecting the North American region. Most recently, Kristin has worked on reports examining non-SMS data trends and an analytical overview of investment trends in the global cellular industry. Kristin has also contributed to research reports on the topics of WCDMA handset pricing, as well as HSPA's role in mobile broadband.

Kristin has 8 years of experience in the telecoms sector, having spent time working on the semiconductor side of the industry before coming to Informa Telecoms & Media. She regularly attends US events such as the CTIA Wireless and CTIA IT & Entertainment events.

Tingting Liu - Research Analyst

Tingting is a Research Analyst within Informa Telecoms & Media's Industry Research division, covering mobile and broadband markets in Greater China Region and Asia-Pacific islands.

As a native mandarin speaker, Tingting is now based in ITM's Beijing Office and has a special research focus on tracking and analysing mobile industry developments in China. Her recent research covers in-depth analysis of Chinese mobile operators' mobile data service strategies. She is also a regular contributor to ITM's global insight reports.

Tingting joined Informa Telecoms & Media Group in Jan 2005. She holds a Masters Degree from University of Oxford and a Bachelor's Degree from Foreign Affairs University, Beijing, China, majoring in English and International Relations.

James Moore - Research Analyst

James Moore is a Research Analyst among the Data & Forecasting team and his primary focus is the updating of content on the World Cellular Information Service.

He has also contributed to numerous reports such as a report on infrastructure sharing as well as writing for the Intelligence Centres. His regional focus is on the Indian sub-continent and he has attended conferences and trade fairs in Asia Pacific including CommunicAsia in Singapore and GSM India.

Areas of interest have included amongst others the analysis of historical subscription growth and forecasts, examination of the uptake of data services, analysis of trends of performance operational data, investor developments in the region, and an analysis of the infrastructure vendors in the Indian subcontinent including the increasing trend towards passive infrastructure sharing and outsourced infrastructure deals.

James is also a member of the Handset & Devices team and has had a particular focus on monitoring the activities of the Japanese and Korean handset manufacturers including LG, NEC and Samsung. He maintains and updates the Handset Database and plays an integral role in the publication of the quarterly World Cellular Handset Tracker.

Europe

Gemma Bunting - Senior Research Analyst

Gemma is a Senior Research Analyst within Informa Telecoms & Media's WCIS team. Gemma is the Analyst responsible for covering the CEE region, with primary focus on Russia and the CIS.

In her role, Gemma uses her Russian language skills to track current fixed and mobile developments in the emerging Russian and CIS markets. In addition, Gemma produces analysis for Mobile Communications Europe and Informa's Intelligence Centres and also co-managers Informa's World Cellular Investors product, which focuses on global acquisitions. Her most recent analysis contribution is for the WCIS team's insight report: 'Analysing Investment Trends in the Global Cellular Industry', where she focuses on mergers and acquisition trends in the CEE region.

Gemma has been with Informa since 2004 and in that time she has become a regular speaker at conferences throughout the CEE region. Most recently she spoke at Informa's Russia & CIS.com 2008 conference.

Elson Sutanto - Research Analyst

Elson is a Research Analyst within Informa Telecoms & Media's Industry Research division. In his role Elson specifically covers the mobile and fixed-line growth of Eastern European markets, in particular the Baltic and Balkan regions.

Elson also has a strong interest in tracking global WiMAX deployments, license awards and developments. Elson regularly writes country profiles for Informa's Mobile Communications Europe publication, analyzing the progression of various central and eastern European mobile markets. He also regularly contributes towards other Informa publications such as Global Mobile and 3G Wireless Broadband. Last, Elson compiles various financial and operational statistical data of the world's largest major mobile operating groups, including Deutsche Telekom, Telekom Austria and Telenor for Informa's World Cellular Benchmarking product.

Elson holds a BSc in Economics from Brunel University and an MSc in Management from Royal Holloway University.

Kalyan Medapati - Research Analyst

Kalyan is an analyst covering Western European fixed telecommunications and Internet for Informa Telecoms and Media. He also covers emerging markets, mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa, and contributes to research on converging media and emerging technologies. His recent work includes research on e-readers, TV white spaces and international bandwidth in Africa. He is currently working on how increasing international bandwidth is shaping retail broadband landscape in Africa, and the attendant business opportunities.

Kalyan holds a degree in Economics from Jönköping University in Sweden.
